STATEMENT OF POLICY
The City of Gardena’s GTrans is committed to the concept of equal opportunity employment as to all terms and conditions of employment. The Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, hereinafter “EEO Policy” or “EEOP,” applies to all employment actions, including but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, selection for training, promotion, transfer, demotion, layoff, termination, rates of pay or other forms of compensation. It prohibits discrimination and harassment against employees, officers, officials, contractors, or applicants for employment on the basis of race, religion, color, sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression, transgender, pregnancy, and breastfeeding), national origin, ancestry, disability, medical condition, genetic characteristics or information, marital status, age, sexual orientation (including homosexuality, bisexuality, or heterosexuality), or any other basis protected by law. Employees, applicants, officers, officials or contractors who believe they have experienced any form of employment discrimination are encouraged to report this immediately to the Director, a Supervisor, Human Resources Officer or the EEO Officer.
All applicants and employees have the right to file complaints alleging discrimination. Retaliation against an individual who files a charge or complaint of discrimination, participates in an employment discrimination proceeding (such as an investigation or lawsuit), or otherwise engages in protected activity is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.
As the City of Gardena’s City Manager, I maintain overall responsibility and accountability for GTrans’ compliance with its EEO Policy and Program. To ensure day-to-day management, including program preparation, monitoring, and complaint investigation, Ernie Crespo, Director of Transportation has been appointed as the EEO Officer.
All GTrans management and supervisory personnel, however, share in the responsibility for implementing and monitoring GTrans’ EEO Policy and Program within their respective areas and will be assigned specific tasks to ensure compliance is achieved. GTrans will evaluate the performance of its Managers and Supervisors on their successful implementation of the Plan’s policies and procedures, in the same way GTrans assesses their performance regarding other agency goals.
I am personally committed to a workplace that acts upon its daily responsibility to treat all applicants and employees with dignity and respect, as well as equitably under the guidelines of our EEO Policy and Program.
