As the City Manger and the Director of Emergency Services, on Monday March 16, 2020, I proclaimed the existence of a local emergency in the City of Gardena. At the Emergency Council Meeting this afternoon, City Council ratified the proclamation. As the Mayor said earlier this afternoon, we are working tirelessly to monitor COVID-19 and implement important advisories from key agencies.
The City of Gardena continues to encourage social distancing and telecommunication. On March 18, 2020, GTrans suspended fare payments and changed their boarding procedures to occur at the rear of the bus. As of today, children’s play areas at our City parks have been closed.

As always, please continue to take the proper safety actions against COVID-19:
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Get the flu shot if you have not done so already.
